"As always, it's good to tag 'em!" This video highlights the collection of a wild tree for future bonsai, in this case, a blackhaw (viburnum prunifolium), dug Feb 28, 2016. Viburnum aren't known for great bonsai material, but the pebbly bark, small foliage and red fall color have intrigued me ever since I got into the hobby.
I hope you enjoy this video, which highlights many of the techniques used in collecting material. Though I've been collecting trees for bonsai for almost ten years, this is my first blackhaw. I always enjoy using the trees native to my area, and this will make a wonderful addition and learning experience for my love of bonsai.
