Jakarta has a daytime population of 13 million people, making it one of the most populous urban agglomerations on earth. With a volatile hydrology and a flooding history, an enormous disaster risk is always latent for inhabitants of this Southeast Asia city. Tri Mulyani Sunarharum (Programme Manager of Resilient Jakarta Secretariat) tells us how the city is redoubling efforts to build a culture of preparedness and responsiveness to risks and shocks, while at the same time working to build social cohesion, through collaborative planning and governance. On the road to integrated solutions and adaptation to climate change, Jakarta has a chance to harness the power of its most important resource, its citizens.
