This stove burns denatured alcohol (90% or better ethyl alcohol by volume with poisonous additives to make the fuel undrinkable). It won't burn other fuels. These stoves were part of a two-stove set sold in an included aluminum surround and used in boats - marine stoves. The surround was often mounted in gimbals. The sets were only sold for a couple of years, post-WWII.
