Abstract: As part of Ohio Department of Health (ODH)’s youth homelessness grant program, Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio (COHHIO) was contracted to assist in program development using data-driven approaches to fight youth homelessness in the state. COHHIO supported establishing data collection requirements and providing technical assistance to grant recipients to standardize data collection across the program. In 2022, Ketchbrook Analytics was engaged to assist in developing a web application to visualize this data.
Ketchbrook worked with COHHIO to develop a Shiny application that allows users to both upload data (to an AWS PostgreSQL database) and visualize the data stored in the database. The application leverages the use of the following packages: {golem} (as development framework), {bs4Dash} (to define app UI) and {echarts4r} (to create interactive charts). The dashboard has one tab per survey question group (Employment, Education, Health, etc.) and uses modularization to keep a clean codebase. The different charts types showcased include donut, bar, sankey diagrams and a heatmap. The app & code code are publicly available.
