There are no great debates among General Relativists about how to understand it. The more one works with it, the clearer it becomes. In contrast, no consensus at all exists among physicists about how to understand quantum theory. There just is no precise, exact physical theory called quantum theory, Prof Tim Maudlin writes in his book Philosophy of Physics: Quantum Theory. Therefore, he claims there should not be interpretations of quantum mechanics, as we dont even have a physical ontology to interpret in the first place.
