Volunteers are the heartđ and soulđȘ of the Surfrider Europe movement. They are the driving force; igniting change in their local communities and fighting every day to protect our ocean, beaches, and coastal waterways.
THANK YOU to each and every citizen who has given their time & energy for the ocean! To celebrate today's International Volunteer Day 2019, we're highlighting 4 significant fights from our special fleet of volunteers: the đSurfrider Coastal Defenders!
1. Praia De Matosinhos Portugal - Port Extension:
A 320 million Euro proposal for a port extension poses large threats to Matosinhos and Porto beaches, and local ecosystems. We say No to port development!
2. Brétignolles-Sur-Mer, Pays De La Loire, France - Port Development:
The creation and development of a marina in the town in France threatens coastal ecosystems, currents, the rupture of the dune and seabed. We demand the authorization of this project to be cancelled!
3. Porto, Portugal, Northern Portugal - Water Quality :
Extremely poor water quality requires rapid action, especially the integrated planning and management of water resources. Surfrider Coastal Defenders are testing and publishing results.
4. Le Havre, France - Landfill Excavation :
The landfill of Dollemard is slowly releasing its 13 000 truckloads of waste into the English Channel. We demand the immediate excavation of this site.
