Back in early 2012 there was excitement in the UK Photo Charter world when the ‘Coal Tank’ (formerly London & Western Rly No. 1054 built in 1888) appeared in unlined British Railways black livery as 58926 – the first time since withdrawal from service in 1958.
A number of photo charters were organised by various groups in February 2012 at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway in Yorkshire, UK. Unfortunately, the locomotive seems to be one of those engines that attract bad weather! All of the charters run that week took place in mostly dull and/or very wet conditions resulting in few photos or videos of the locomotive operating in sunshine.
This video records two days of these charters organised by Russ Hillier (R.U.S.S. Charters) and also Don Bishop of ‘Steam Recreations’ and many thanks to them for trying to get the best we could under largely poor lighting conditions. Thanks are also due to the railway staff.
The video shows 58926 in action along the line hauling both a two-coach passenger train reminiscent of the early 1950s and also on a short freight train. The sun did appear for about 10 minutes on day 2 and we tried to make the best of it!
