--Point 1: the race.
Yesterday I went to Kart & Go Como, an indoor karting venue in Italy, for the second race of an amateur championship I'm doing with the Scuderia Ferrari Club of Como. The format was 10 minutes of qualifying and 15 minutes of race with a mandatory "pit-stop" of 20 seconds. I started from the 6th place and I was sure someone in front of me would have done his pit-stop in the first lap (you could do it at any time during the race, but only one driver at a time). But they took me off guard and I tried to took advantage of it by doing mine immediately. I thought it would work better, but the fact of having entered the pits with cold tires, that resulted in doing the following lap still with cold tires and losing a little too much time compared to my front rivals. All the rest is in the video. I have to admit it was one of the most enjoyable races I had so far even if I finished in 6th place!
Best Lap: 33.445
Kart: Sodi SR4 Honda 200cc 4-strokes
--Point 2: GoPro Hero 7 Black. I'm testing this new action camera since January and I'm still not happy, mostly about the audio. I was using the Super Suit case, with the opened rear door, and audio setted to "stereo" (not "auto" or "windshield" mode). I was hoping the wind noise it wouldn't have been excessive, but I was wrong. Still too much for my tastes, and compared to my beloved old Hero 4. Need to try other settings next time.
Hypersmooth stabilization improves a lot the general video, but using it with karts and lots of vibrations, I noticed too much artifacts are created to stabilized the image. Maybe with a more narrow FOV, the Hero 7' stabilizer works better..

Heres a first attempt to upload a 360° video, kindly provided by my friend and driver Marco Ulivi and taken with his GoPro Max. Yes, Ive already told him to try and change some settings for his next races (higher fps) and especially to always clean the protective lenses before each runs hehe.
Anyway, forgetting about the quality, enjoy Marco attacking the fast course of the Bologna-Raticosa hillclimb during his first (out of two) race heat, with a time of 256.77!
(I noticed 360° videos are more optimized for smartphones and VRs than on pc/laptop, so consider them if you want to enjoy the clip at its best)
The Bologna-Raticosa is a famous Italian hillclimb, held for the first time in 1950 on a course of around 42 km from Bologna to the Raticosa Pass. The last historic edition was held in 1969 on a course that was 10km shorter than the original one. In 2001 historic cars were able to race again on this course thanks to Scuderia Bologna Squadra Corse but only on a 6.2 kilometer course that winds between the villages of Pianoro Vecchio and Livergnano. The race is valid for the Campionato Italiano di Velocità in Salita per Auto Storiche (Italian Hillclimb Championship for Historic Cars) but during these new modern editions the organizers also allow a small group of more recent race cars to attack the hillclimb course but without affecting the historic championship standings (like the Radical in this video).
Ive already shared with you a few videos about this lightweight weapon on my main channel. Painted to recall the JPS colours, this particular Radical is a 1100 Clubsport that was upgraded with the aero kit coming from the Radical Prosport model, such as rear wing, diffuser and front flaps. The Radical 1100 Clubsport was the companys first car, built from 1997 to 1999. It was a small open-cockpit chassis powered by Kawasaki ZZR1100 engine, featuring a max power of 145hp (120hp at rear wheels), for a total weight of only 420kg. It was mostly raced in the UK in a one-make series based around the car. In particular Marcos one is the last Clubsport chassis built by the company.

Tryed to climb the global rankings for the Group A class in one of my favorite Dirt Rally 2.0 stage, called Comienzo De Bellriu, which is a pretty decent recreation of a real WRC stage located in Spain, crossing the village of El Lloar, called Bellriu in the game, and ending at La Figuera, called Centenera in game (You can watch the real life on board of the same road section, starting at 1:33 and ending at 9:13, in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obxe4EuSaUE ).
In the end, the time I set placed me in sixth position over 8,000 other recorded times, with a gap of almost 4 seconds from the top position.
Last but not the least, the Delta Gr. A is yet an amazing example of how the sound of some Dirt Rallys cars has been perfectly reproduced. Enjoy!

Here you are something new for you! Yesterday I went to the 2017 Jesolo European Air Show in Italy in order to record some fighter jets, airplanes, helicopters and a couple of acrobatic teams with my 3D binaural microphone.
This video is about the full display of the Italian Air Force acrobatic team called Frecce Tricolori which is composed by 10 Aermacchi MB-339 A/PAN airplanes.
This was my very first time recording some airplanes and I must say I found it quite hard. Im used to record cars for just a few seconds and then stop recording but keeping the camcorder in my hands without any tripods, at full zoom fighting for not shaking too much for 10-20 minutes continuously has been really challenging. But Im very happy with the result of the binaural audio recordings: those low, gloomy and hammering jet noises are perfect for that microphone.

What the hell is a 3D/Binaural recording?
Binaural recordings are reproductions of sound the way human ears hear it. Traditionally, recordings have been made using mono or stereo. Mono uses a single microphone while stereo uses two, spaced apart from each other. Binaural recording takes the stereo method one step further by placing two microphones approximately at the same average distance that exists between one and the other human ear.
To recreate the best effect you must put the microphones in your ears or by using a dummy head (wherein a mannequin head is outfitted with a microphone in each ear) because having a real head or a head shape that separates the two microphones is what makes the magic works. In fact if a car passes on your left side the sound will take a few extra microseconds to reach the right ear and it will also be louder in one ear (left) than the other. This is caused by the fact we have a thick skull and spongy brain between the two ears and sound waves interact with the physical constitution of the listener and the surrounding space.

This video is about the full display of the Italian Air Force Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale (National Aerobatic Team), called the Frecce Tricolori, held during the 2024 Jesolo Air Show. This event has been their first performance in the Italian skies after their recent return from the 2024 NAT/North American Tour.
The Frecce Tricolori are a formation of 10 aircrafts, nine in close formation and a soloist, making them the worlds largest acrobatics patrol. The team flies the Aermacchi MB-339-A/PAN, a two-seat fighter-trainer developed during the 1970s in response to an Italian Air Force requirement that sought a replacement for the services existing fleet of Aermacchi MB-326s.
Over the years Ive tried severalI configurations and equipment for these recordings to the point of deciding to only use static scenes (with the gear mounted on a tripod or directly in my hands) in order to
better highlight the 3D/surround effect of this unique stereo recording. But for this video, I wanted to add the classic shots I took with a secondary camera at the bottom left of the video as the solo and the main formations displays were taking place, so that you can enjoy what the static camcorder cannot capture.
