2nd part of this crazy track, if you haven't seen part 1 here it is : youtu.be/SKpz0vp3t0o
This second part is definitely more "prog" than the first, inspired by Animals as Leaders and Tigran Hamasyan among other artists I'd say, but still retaining that strong modern jazz flavour, mostly thanks to the piano solo and sax section I'd say but hey, as usual it's all over the place and I do what I want.
This track was first composed in 2021 by myself in my homestudio, when I still had hope to release an album within the same year lol, that changed and I decided to play it and record it with friends and musicians.
The title, "2 chords", is simply because the whole track is based on two chords, Abmaj9 and Gmaj9. It started as a test or an exercice to prove that with good arrangement, you don't need much to start a track. Just 2 chords are enough, then you introduce some transitions, melodies, variations, and try to make all that mess flow well together.

About that video now, in 2021 after the first full mockups and preprod, composition and arrangement were done, I thought I would do differently than my previous releases. Like instead of insisting of doing it all by myself like a maniac, I would delegate as much as possible to my friends and musicians that I've met during the last few years. So I started by recording Benjamin on drums, summer 2021. Benjamin is also the pianist of my other band @ItzamnaMusic .
Can you imagine that, another multiinstrumentalist at my disposal. Yes, in a perfect world, every single one of my clones would be replaced by a better and real musicians, actually in my ideal band, I don't play in it lol.
So because most of my tracks have a strong compositional bulk made of drums and piano, I needed a good drummer and pianist to replace me, fortunately I have both. Benjamin on drums and François-Xavier on piano. (youtu.be/6D91lDb7CbY?si=Z0YELD2fMYSsi79j)
The difference the actual drums recording made was enough to convince me I needed to replace more of my own performances and programmations. Yes at the risk of loosing a bit of my very personal flavour and colour and diluting somehow the essence of my music by letting other people enter, but that's what I want to try now. I think I'm mature enough to know where to let go and where to retain, it's a thin balance between control and guiding the performances and still letting the possibility of unexpected surprises.
The idea of a full captation and video came after the Tigran fiasco and removal of the video from YouTube that most of you have never seen and probably never will... Months of work for nothing, that was frustrating... Thanks universal... So at least with a track of mine there is no risk. But "PATIENCE" is far now, probably even far from myself. It's already been 4-5 years, I'm not the same person anymore. So let's try something new, a captation of something unreleased, maybe that'll help me to play live around here, maybe not... Maybe it will trigger something in my composition process now that I have a full band at my disposal...
So I wrote partitions, rearranged the original track for this specific formation, FX and Benjamin helped a lot along the way because I am still not used to actually write down partitions, since I never really needed to because I was doing it all by myself. Gathered the musicians, rented the venue, asked a few more friends to help be record and film. 4 simultaneous cameras and time to shoot some B rolls and more aesthetic shots while still retaining the live aspect and choosing only one of the three takes. So yeah, that's 100% live, and it sounds amazing !
Hope you enjoy !
