If you've ever forgotten to clean your circuit board after soldering, or you're trying to use a salvaged board from an old product, cleaning it up can make using it a lot easier. More information and links below.....
The flux used in soldering, is corrosive, and over time will slowly eat away at your circuit board. This can also be seen even when ordering PCB's if a "No-Clean" policy is used by the producer. Other reasons for doing this include boards which have been exposed to water, or if the batteries have exploded inside the device (as in my remote!)
Using a small amount of acetone, an old toothbrush, and a little elbow grease, you can clean off a large amount of corrosion and contamination from the board, and solder joints, allowing you to assess the board more easily, and solder further components to it and existing joints as needed.
