Splitting CLAUDE.md into @imports can make instructions easier to organize. It does not automatically reduce startup context: current Claude Code documentation says imported files are expanded and loaded alongside the parent file, with recursive imports capped at five hops.

Use imports for organization, path-scoped rules for conditional guidance, and skills for task-specific workflows. These are context-design choices—not guarantees of compliance, token savings, speed, or accuracy.
