Charpentier composed his grand polyphonic motet Te Deum in D major, H. 146 between 1688 and 1698, during his stay at the Jesuit Church of Saint-Louis in Paris, where he was musical director.
The work is written for the group of soloists, choir, and instrumental accompaniment. Charpentier authored six Te Deum settings, although only four of them have survived.
The instrumental introduction, composed in the form of rondo, precedes the first verset, led by the bass soloist. The choir and other soloists join gradually. Charpentier apparently intended to orchestrate the work according to the traditional exegesis of the Latin text.
The choir thus predominates in the first part (praise of God, heavenly dimension), and individual soloists in the second part (Christological section, secular dimension).
The composition is scored for five soloists (SSATB) and choir (SATB), accompanied with an instrumental ensemble of 2 flutes or recorders, 2 oboes, 2 trumpets, timpani, 2 violins (2 violins for the bass solo "Te deum laudamus"), 2 violas, and basso continuo.
After the work's rediscovery in 1953 by Carl de Nys, the instrumental prelude was chosen as the theme music preceding the broadcasts of the European Broadcasting Union.
After over sixty years of use notably before the Eurovision Song Contest, the prelude, as arranged and directed by Louis Martini and Guy Lambert, has become Charpentier's best-known work.

Borodin wrote this quartet in two years, and published it in 1879 with a dedication to Rimsky Korsakovs wife. Though overshadowed by his more popular second quartet, the musical resources employed by Borodin in its composition were novel in 19th century Russia.
It full title is String Quartet on a Theme of Beethoven, and it employes a variation of a melody from Beethovens Op. 130 quartet. Upon hearing it, a critic stated that Borodin had produced Russias first great piece of chamber music.

Much of Boccherinis chamber music follows models established by Joseph Haydn; however, he is often credited with improving Haydns model of the string quartet by bringing the cello to prominence, whereas Haydn had frequently relegated it to an accompaniment role.
Rather, some sources for Boccherinis style are in the works of a famous Italian cellist, Giovanni Battista Cirri, who was born before Boccherini and before Haydn, and in the Spanish popular music.
This particular quartet was written in 1780, and published with a set originally marked as Op. 33 by Artaria, and later by Pleyel as paret pof Op. 39.

Frédéric Chopin wrote his Two Bourrées in 1846, though they were never published during his lifetime. As they lack an opus number, they are usually referred to by their Brown catalogue numbers, B. 160b1 and B. 160b2.
Like many of his lesser works, they were published posthumously (in 1968), contrary to his wish that all his unpublished manuscripts be burned.
