While writing these pieces, Chopin was staying in France, exiled from his native Poland: there is a strong nationalistic component in the Mazurkas Op. 17.

Frédéric Chopin composed this Mazurka in A flat major around 1834. It is a somewhat obscure piece, with no known dedicatee, and published posthumously in 1930 (it is noteworthy that Chopin had requested that his unpublished works be burnt upon his death).
As it doesnt have a proper Opus number, it is usually referred to as B. 85, and KK IVb/4, according to its entry numbers in the Brown and Kobylanska catalogues respectively.

Frédéric Chopin wrote his Galop in A flat major, also known as Galop Marquis in 1846. It is a work for solo piano, and it doesnt count among Chopins most performed pieces.
It did not receive an opus number during Chopins lifetime, so it usually referred to as P2 no. 13 under the Józef Michal Chominski catalogue.
It has been suggested that the title makes reference to one of George Sands (Chopins lover) dogs.

A harpsichord, also known by the name cembalo, is a musical instrument played by means of a keyboard. It produces sound by plucking a string when a key is pressed.
In the narrow sense, harpsichord designates only the large wing-shaped instruments in which the strings are perpendicular to the keyboard.
François Couperin is known above all for his harpsichord music: between 1713 and 1730 he published four books of suites (ordres) for harpsichord.
The movements of these suites have highly ornamented melodies and complex accompaniments, with frequent dialogues between treble and bass.
