Aussie Garage | Classic HQ Holden Premier ready to Cruise Melbourne. @AussieGarage | Uploaded June 2024 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
On this episode we are in Melbourne and we are catching up with Tom with his 1974 HQ Holden Premier. Tom scored this brilliant HQ Premier from South Australia a few years back in 2011 from the son of the original owner, so he is now the second owner of the vehicle. It only had 38000 kms on the clock, however, he not sure its the original kms or it had gone around the clock. Tom grab the HQ and then drove it back to Melbourne.
It was in good order when he got it and he had be resprayed in 2003 and still had the 253 Holden V8 engine, Power Steering, Air Conditioning and Tri Matic gearbox. However, Tom went right through it anyway and made it just how he likes it. He resprayed the HQ Premier in 2015 and fixed up any blemished the vehicle had, refresh the interior and did work on the engine. The HQ Holden Premier has Pro Star Wheel with nice meaty tires at the rear.
Now it's running a 355 Holden block V8 engine that has had some work and has about 450 horsepower, which is not to shabby. with the back up of a Tri-Matic gearbox that has been worked to handle the 355 V8 Engine, plus he has a shortened 9" diff with 3.77 ratio gearing. the Paint is Monterey Green HQ Factory Colour and still has all the original Premier badges on the vehicle.
The Interior is standard, but he had refresh the carpet, Driver Seat, the door trim and the Dash as they were a bit worn out. Tom has added additional gauges for the HQ, however, they are tucked away nicely and not up on the dash. The interior clock is working but losses time, however, that is standard for these Holden Clocks. In the boot is very standard with original GTS rim and Wheel, but there is the added fire extinguisher which is very important to have in these old classics. We have seen too many be burnt down to fuel issues, electrical issues and more.
Tom is part of two car Clubs, the first is the HQ Holden Cruise Club of Victoria which is HQ Holdens only and the other was restarted after COVID finished in Melbourne which was Classic Muscle Cars and Coffee Melbourne. They hold all sorts of events, cruises and more for both clubs, plus they raise funds for Beyond Blue, which is a great charity.
