Today is a historic day. The City is now able to release the findings of the independent professional standards investigation into the arrest of Karen Garner on June 26, 2020. This important milestone comes more than a year after the report was finalized, and 19 months since body worn camera footage of Ms. Garner’s arrest hit the news and brought worldwide attention to the department. Today is the first day that we can legally release it due to the appeals process.

Today is the day that we take accountability for the Loveland Police Department’s role in what happened to Ms. Garner the day of her arrest and in the days following. This is an important milestone for Ms. Garner and her family, for our community, for the City of Loveland as an organization and for the Loveland Police Department. It brings closure to an incident that brought to bear the high degree of accountability that will be our standard going forward.
