Join Gwyneth and Lijin Chin as we discuss:
*What is the circular economy and how is it different from the linear?
*The lifecycle of a piece of packaging - where does it come from and where does it end up?
*How we can look at nature’s cycles to inspire us as to how to deal with “waste” (biomimicry)
*Why we need to actively work to improve our world rather than just minimising damage
*How the idea of “Circular Economy” can move us towards sustainability
*What happens if we stick to our current ways of doing ‘business as usual’
*How things are looking globally today and how companies are responding to the need for sustainability
*Why the Circular Economy is much more than “carbon” and recycling
Lijin is the Senior Managing Partner of ACMF Circular Economy that provides advisory services and supports companies to identify and monetise circular economy value and transition profitably. She is also the Founding Chairperson for the Circular Business Association aimed at building the strongest SME circular business ecosystem to help accelerate the transition to circular economy and solve the climate crisis.
Lijin is a Schmidt MacArthur Fellow for Circular Economy since 2016 and has 10 years experience in research and management consulting mainly for the Malaysian government and multi-lateral organisations such as the Economic Planning Unit of Malaysia (EPU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Her project involvements include the Sustainable Development Goals, climate change, sustainable financing, state investment promotion development, nature based tourism, solid waste management, the Bottom 40 households, Orang Asli and migrant workers. She has a Masters degree in Environmental Economics from Cranfield University, UK and a science degree in ecology from Monash University Sunway. Lijin is a passionate problem solver and loves working on inter-disciplinary work.
The Story Anew is a podcast and video series in which we'll meet amazing people from all over the world who are working to redefine the dominant narrative of our times - that of infinite growth and consumption. These are the people working towards what Joanna Macy calls The Great Turning - the shifting of our Industrial Growth Society, which prioritises infinite growth over life - to a Life Sustaining Society.
The people you'll meet are working in regeneration, activism, systems design, permaculture, trauma healing, decolonisation, climate change and generally working to fundamentally change the way we do things as a species so that we can live on this planet more harmoniously with our fellow beings and become good ancestors.
