Gwyneth Jones | Designing Resilient Systems - Sarah Queblatin, Green Releaf Initiatiative. The Story Anew #23 @gwynethjones8292 | Uploaded March 2022 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Sarah Queblatin (Philippines) is a regenerative design strategist facilitating inclusive ecosystem leadership. She is passionate about transforming the narrative of Disaster Risk Reduction (or DRR) into that of Designing for Resilience and Regeneration for communities affected by disasters, displacement, and unsustainable development. She weaves collective experiences in peace building, cultural heritage conservation, environmental education, and humanitarian assistance for more than 15 years.

Sarah integrates traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) with permaculture and ecovillage design in her work. She has coordinated and co-designed programs for local and international organizations and founded and led her own organization in the Philippines. She speaks and facilitates on topics about regenerative approaches to climate mitigation and adaptation in the Asia and Pacific region. She has a trauma informed understanding of resilience and integrates this in her design and strategies for transitioning communities, towns, and cities.

In this episode, we discuss:
- The importance of reframing the narrative from “risk management” to designing resilient systems
- Decolonising the hypocritical narratives around “development” and growth
- How can we heal the wounds of colonialism? How do we restore and restory, to re-indiginise the way we see ourselves?
- Moving from a reductionist view to weaving a life-sustaining society
- The importance of creating a safe space in order to process our grief and unlearn what we’ve learnt through colonisation
- Sarah’s peacebuilding and healing work, which ranges from speaking with indigenous shamans and government officials
- What is indigenous ‘knowing’ of being connected to the earth?

The Story Anew is a podcast and video series in which we'll meet amazing people from all over the world who are working to redefine the dominant narrative of our times - that of infinite growth and consumption. These are the people working towards what Joanna Macy calls The Great Turning - the shifting of our Industrial Growth Society, which prioritises infinite growth over life - to a Life Sustaining Society.

The people you'll meet are working in regeneration, activism, systems design, permaculture, trauma healing, decolonisation, climate change and generally working to fundamentally change the way we do things as a species so that we can live on this planet more harmoniously with our fellow beings and become good ancestors.
