Wayfaring Panda | Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits @wayfaringpanda2936 | Uploaded June 2020 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
This is my favorite recipe for buttermilk biscuits that my family has been using for years. In this variation I added cinnamon chips and raisins, but you can use the same recipe and leave those out if you want regular buttermilk biscuits. If you haven't had home made biscuits, you have to try these. They are light flaky, and soft. You can put some icing on top for sweetness or have them plain or with butter. If you decide just to make buttermilk biscuits let me tell you that there isn't any better comfort food than a buttermilk biscuit and honey or buttermilk biscuit and home made apple butter. Yum-ee!
I made a double batch in the video since I was sending these to elderly people stuck at home by themselves. I'll put the regular batch recipe here:
Ingredients:
2 cups all purpose flour
4 tsp baking powder
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup cinnamon chips (the ones like the chocolate chips, not actual cinnamon)
1/2 cup raisins
3/4 cup buttermilk
optional icing (only for cinnamon raisin, not plain buttermilk)
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1-2 Tbsp milk
Mix until smooth and add milk until you get desired consistency.
