During these trying and uncertain times, we have been trying to spread a little bit of love and movie magic by showcasing some of our favourite moments in film.
In this week's Cinemoments, we are continuing our focus on all things PLAY within film. Highlighting the playful, joyous films that make cinema so magical. From laughing out loud to cheering alongside, these films involve happiness in all its forms. On Thanksgiving Day 1976, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese was amongst more than 5,000 cheering fans gathered for the historic farewell concert of The Band, the pioneering country-tinged rock band formed in 1960. Scorsese later edited the concert footage to create his documentary, THE LAST WALTZ, interspersing band interviews with performances by legends such as Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan and Emmylou Harris.
What started as a farewell to rock icons, ended as a celebration. A celebration of not just The Band, but a celebration of music, art, friendship and emotion created out of human experience and years on the road. In this joyous clip, The Band is joined by The Staple Singers to perform their unforgettable song 'The Weight', with Levon Helm’s distinctive and soulful vocals taking centre stage.
