During these trying and uncertain times, we have been trying to spread a little bit of love and movie magic by showcasing some of our favourite moments in film.
This week, we begin our LOVE month with heart-warming classic FRIED GREEN TOMATOES (1991). A story that celebrates love among and between women in both 1920s and 1990s Alabama - full of laughter, drama, and joyous moments of community. Based on the novel by Fannie Flagg, nominated for two Oscars®, and held together by moving performances from Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Mary-Louise Parker, this film is a potent testament to how love and friendship can withstand time, judgement, violence, and loss. In this scene, Ninny Threadgoode has finished telling Evelyn the years-long story that carries the whole film and, as they walk through a garden, poignantly realises that “the most important thing in life is friends.”
