Christian Author Phillip Yancey Confession of Adultery and His Wife Janet Yancey Forgives Him. Although its really sad to hear that Philip Yancey committed adultery on his wife Janet of 55 years there is a silver lining to this story. One of the better stories in Christian news this week is that Philip Yancey's wife decided to forgive him despite her great trauma. Its a story of sin and brokenness but also about forgiveness.
Philip Yancey wife who name is Janet Yancey released this statement to Christianity today: "I, Janet Yancey, am speaking from a place of trauma and devastation that only people who have lived through betrayal can understand. Yet I made a sacred and binding marriage vow 55½ years ago, and I will not break that promise. I accept and understand that God through Jesus has paid for and forgiven the sins of the world, including Philip’s. God grant me the grace to forgive also, despite my unfathomable trauma. Please pray for us".
This is a great reminder that forgiveness in the Christian life is not optional. Forgiveness is not saying what Philip Yancey did was right. His 8 year affair is a very serious sin against God and his family. Janet realizes that Jesus can forgive us of any sin and she made a life long vow to her husband. Forgiveness's doesn't always happen right away and sometime it can take a while to forgive. Forgiveness is hard to do and that is why we need Gods help. Now forgiveness does not always mean restoration with other people especially if the sin is been very severe
