Day 1
Niko and Alfonzo insist that I keep a journal detailing my travels now that I'm an engineer. I'm really excited about being an engineer! Although, Alfonzo is still a little mad at me for falling asleep during Niko's slide show. He does the same one every year, I don't know why he insists on using me for practice all the time. If people really want to see his shows early, why doesn't he use one of them to practice on?
Anyway, Alfonzo had me drive to Castle Town today. It went well! I didn't ram into any trains or animals in the way.
Alfonzo couldn't come to the castle with me when we made it, so I had to go in alone. The soldiers let me inside the big castle when I told them I was here for the graduation ceremony. I had never seen Princess Zelda before, so I was a little nervous.
The guard to the throne room wouldn't let me through, but Chancellor Cole was passing by and helped me get in. I was told to kneel at the throne and not to look up until the princess told me to.
I looked up as soon as the princess approached. I knew I wasn't supposed to, but I wanted to see what she looked like. She's beautiful! My hands were sweating pretty badly, but I didn't dare move to take off my gloves (they're part of the uniform).
The chancellor yelled at me for looking up, but the princess didn't seem to mind. She asked me my name and granted me my engineer's certificate but...she also gave me something else. It was a note. I looked at the princess and she shook her head. She glanced nervously at the chancellor as she exited. She didn't want him to know about this note.
I walked out of the throne room and read the note. The princess wanted me to meet her in her chambers through a secret passage. She gave me directions to where it was. It wasn't too hard to find. I also heard music coming from the passage. I followed it and found the princess. She was playing a pan flute.
As soon as she noticed me, she immediately told me that something strange has been happening. The Spirit Tracks have been disappearing and she wants to find out why. To do that, she has to go to the Tower of Spirits but the chancellor won't let her go due to "safety concerns." She wants me to sneak her out. I wasn't sure how I could do that.
The princess gave me a green soldier's uniform. I'm surprised it fit me. I guess Alfonzo did say that some kids my age train to become soldiers. Anyway, I changed into the clothes. They fit just fine and they feel very comfortable.
The princess told me that I had to distract the guards in order to sneak her out. If I tried to just lead her out of the castle, the chancellor would catch on. We're going to have to be very careful about this.
I asked the princess why I was the one who had to help her. She said that she knew Alfonzo was my teacher. She trusts him, which is why she is able to trust me. She must've known Alfonzo from back when he was a soldier.
