China’s carrier-based J-35 has recently caught attention for a very unusual reason.
New photos taken in mid-to-late August 2026 appear to show parts of the aircraft covered in a highly reflective, almost mirror-like silver surface.
The finish can be seen across portions of the fuselage, wings, and tail — looking very different from the traditional gray coatings normally associated with stealth fighters.
And naturally, this has raised a big question:
Is China testing a new “chrome stealth” coating for the J-35?
Some observers have even given the aircraft nicknames such as “Galaxy Battleship.”
But before we jump to conclusions, there is an important point to understand.
China has not officially confirmed what this material actually is, why it is being used, or whether it has anything to do with radar stealth.
In fact, the shiny appearance alone does not prove that this is some revolutionary new radar-absorbing material.
