1.Canada has matched the tariffs that President Trump said, including 50 percent on items such as steel. Is there some opinion or perspective from the Chinese Foreign Ministry in terms of the actions that Canada and perhaps other countries might take in response to Trump's tariff war?
China always maintains that all sides should resolve their respective trade and economic concerns through equal dialogue and consultation.
2.Chinese authorities are urging Chinese citizens in Eswatini to evacuate and urging others not to visit the country, citing local security and scamming concerns. Could you elaborate a little bit on some of the thinking behind this advisory?
The security situation in Eswatini is currently complex, with rampant criminal activities involving telecom fraud and online gambling, as well as extremely high risks to public security and social stability. Issuing security alerts is a common practice among countries around the world. China has always upheld the principle of putting people first and serving the people through diplomacy, and will take necessary measures to safeguard the safety and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens overseas.
3.To follow up, could you give me some examples of other similar travel advisories that China has issued specifically regarding scamming-related risks? Also, China doesn't have a diplomatic relationship with Eswatini, is that a factor in this advisory or is it unrelated?
We have previously issued similar security alerts. Regarding this particular security alert, I would like to stress that given the currently extremely high risks to public security and other aspects of social safety in Eswatini, as well as the rampant telecom fraud and online gambling activities, the Chinese government issued the security alert after a prudent assessment to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens.
4.China has announced that President Xi Jinping will attend the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. What message does China hope to convey through his attendance at the summit?
During this year’s Bishkek Summit, President Xi Jinping will have in-depth exchanges with participating countries' leaders on deepening cooperation in various fields within the SCO under the new circumstances, as well as on major current international and regional issues, and make plans and arrangements for advancing the SCO’s high-quality development and participating in the reform and development of the global governance system.
China is ready to work with all parties to build greater consensus at the Bishkek Summit, jointly write a new chapter of cooperation, make positive contributions to promoting security, stability, development and revitalization in countries across the region, and advance the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
