đź’Ą China Just Took Another Step Away from the U.S. Dollar

At the end of September, China made a move that got almost no press coverage — but it should have.

China — the world’s largest buyer of iron ore — told BHP, one of the biggest mining companies on the planet:

“We’re putting a pause on all new iron ore orders in U.S. dollars.”

They weren’t stopping purchases — only U.S. dollar transactions.

And since China is BHP’s biggest customer, that message landed fast.
Within days, they struck a new deal:
đź“‘ All future iron ore contracts between BHP and China will now be settled 30% in renminbi (RMB).

That’s a major precedent — and a significant win for China’s long-term strategy of de-dollarization.

Now Beijing can go to the rest of the world and say:

“This is how we do business now.”
