Today well be changing the oil in this 2008 Chevy cobalt, also were discussing WHY were doing it ourselves and not paying someone else to do it. Not just from an economical standpoint but from a quality standpoint. The video goes into specifics ion this matter.
I'm using ramps in the video, I generally don't use ramps, I use jacks, this was done to demonstrate for the video. I also find my ramps are about done, and end up adding jackstands to these ramps.
I start with the removing of the under-hood plastics, returning the oil cap, taking the opportunity to do a quick inspection. Locating the oil pan bolt, checking the temperature of the pan we find it safe to proceed setting up a catch pan.
At home, one has the luxury to drain their oil as long as they want, not the 2 minutes as usually done in a shop, but while draining we move to the filter. The filter cap is cleaned out and inspected for re-use. An OEM Acdelco oil filter is used PF457G.
Still letting the oil drain, I take the time to clean all of the plastics before re-installing them atop the engine. I go in and edit this video for a while and come out an hour or so later to finally clean up the oil pan bold the pan and close everything up.
With this particular car ill add 4 quarts and then use the dip stick for the final measurement when its off the ramp. Its easier to add oil then remove it.
I finish off by resetting the oil counter on the car following the procedure in the manual with the oil status back at 100%.
