Small polymer beads containing metal salt solution are reacting with a surrounding silicate solution. Within seconds a hollow tube (and additional nodules) forms from the bead. Here the growing tube is attached to a surface-pinned air bubble and pushes the bead (the "fuel tank") rightwards while growing at the bubble interface.
