In a story of man versus machine, Martin Flanagan has been racing his bike against the @rmountaineertrain with each ride dedicated to a late friend.

#ChasingRocky began back in 2016 after Martin set out from Panorama B.C to go see a friend living in Banff, and he knew if he timed it just right, he would arrive before the Rocky Mountaineer - but it didn’t go to plan.

“I didn’t make it. It was a bad ride; I didn’t even complete the ride. My friend Cam passed away shortly thereafter, and I never got to see him again. So ever since then, I’ve been making sure I finish all my rides.”

With the scores tied at 3-all, this year’s race begins at Vermilion Lakes in Banff National Park as he rides along the Legacy Trail with one goal in mind – beat the Rocky Mountaineer.
