On May 31, 2012 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools partnered with Charlotte in 2012 to host the "You CAN, Make It Better" event at Piedmont Middle School to provide hands-on education about eating healthy meals and staying active. The event served as the kick off for the Charlotte in 2012 Convention Host Committee's convention legacy programs. Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx created the four legacy programs to help ensure that the convention leaves a positive, lasting impact on the local region.
