As a former ECS President and pioneer in the field of electrochemical engineering, Charles Tobias was instrumental in the advancement of electrochemical science. Through his role in forming the Chemical Engineering Department at Berkeley in 1947, Tobias made a long-lasting and far-reaching impact on the field.
At Berkeley, Tobias was seen as a role model and friend—supervising over 70 graduate students. He mark on electrochemical engineering is still very prominent, with a large portion of electrochemical engineers in the United States have been former students of his or students of his students.
In addition to his immense talent and enormous contributions to the field of electrochemical engineering, Tobias’ peers saw him as a great inspiration.
ABOUT THESE RECORDINGS
The Eltech Systems Lectureship in Electrochemistry Endowment Fund was established in the early 1980’and being administered by Case Alumni Foundation.
This endowment fund makes it possible to bring a distinguished electrochemist to Case Western Reserve University for a period of one or two weeks who presents a series of lectures of interest both academic and industrial scientists and engineers.
In addition, the Eltech lecturer engages in group discussions and informal seminars, which are of great value to students scientists and engineers on campus and from industries.
Previous lecturers in the series include Professor Eliezer Gileadi, Professor Charles Tobias, Professor Allen Bard, Professor Heinz Gerischer, Professor Martin Fleischmann, Professor Richard Alkire and Professor John Goodenough.
