The Battle of Ossów was fought during the opening stages of the Battle of Warsaw, in the Polish–Soviet War. As Soviet forces advanced toward the Polish capital, Polish troops and volunteers fiercely defended the village of Ossów, temporarily halting the enemy's offensive.
The battle is especially remembered for the death of Ignacy Skorupka, a Catholic priest who was killed while ministering to and encouraging Polish soldiers on the front line, becoming a powerful symbol of national sacrifice.
