And most people have absolutely no idea how significant this moment is.
This reminds me of when Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile.
For years, people believed it couldn’t be done.
Then someone did it.
And suddenly the impossible became possible.
The paradigm changed.
That is what happened this weekend.
For generations, much of the horse world has been built around the idea that control comes first. Bits, whips, spurs, pressure, force. Some harsher than others, but all based on the belief that we must control the horse to keep ourselves safe.
Then along comes a group of riders and horses showing something different.
Partnership.
Trust.
Communication.
Connection.
The emotion shown by the riders and the calmness, softness and willingness shown by the horses says more than words ever could.
To me, this is about far more than horses.
It is a reflection of a wider awakening happening across society.
We are beginning to question old systems, old habits and old beliefs that have simply been accepted because “that’s how it’s always been done.”
And once we truly examine some of those patterns, they no longer sit comfortably with us.
Whether it’s how we educate children, how we care for our health, how we treat animals, how we run businesses or how we relate to one another, many of the old models were built on control, compliance and force.
This weekend showed another way.
A better way.
A way based on understanding rather than domination.
Trust rather than fear.
Cooperation rather than coercion.
Being the change you want to see in the world is easy to say.
It’s much harder to live.
The riders, trainers and horses involved have done exactly that.
