I’m changing my name.
The anxiety is so real. It’s taken 4+ years. What if I grow as a person and this new name I’ve chosen no longer fits? What if I find how people use my name, or how my name makes people perceive me isn’t what I wanted?
I’m reminding myself that all names are a facade—a stage name for our public lives.
I’m reminding myself that I carry the energy of my name - my personality influencing how it is perceived, not the other way around. If people project perceptions things onto me, that’s on them.
I’m reminded that many cultures have practices of name changes as you go through different stages of life - and that that makes more sense than our western practice of always staying the same.
