First recorded in 1862 in Jerry Thomas’s How to Mix Drinks, or, The Bon Vivant’s Companion, Rocky Mountain Punch was also featured in David Wondrich’s indispensable Imbibe!, and I can attest to its potency and effectiveness in delivering alcohol to the bloodstream. These ingredients are easily acquired and I highly recommend you give this one a spin, but of course, I would say that about any of these punches.
If you can’t source Smith & Cross, Appleton Signature or Dr. Bird would be fine substitutes, and if you’re having a hard time finding Maraska, as I did, Luxardo will work as well.
Rocky Mountain Punch (scaled down)
1 750ml bottle of Champagne or other dry French sparkling wine
6.4oz/190ml Jamaican rum
3.2oz/95ml Maraschino liqueur
.5oz/15ml superfine sugar
