Welcome to the wonderful world of chainmail! Today's project is a great beginner's tutorial so you can learn the basics and complete your first chainmail project in a couple hours.
If you need to make your chainmail rings, head on over to my chainmail jig video youtu.be/2wOrzMuB5yM so you can make your own jig for making the rings and at the end of the video I also show you how to make the rings and some starter tips.
Here is a time stamp menu for you to jump to the next step or carry on from where you were last time:
00:25 Link to chainmail ring jig video and some tips before you start
02:33 1st step- close 3 rings and stack them together
03:17 1st row of rings- put 15 rings around the first 3 rings
03:58 2nd row of rings- put 3 rings around 3 rings from 1st row
05:44 3rd row- connect 2 sets of 3 rings from 2nd row together with 3 rings
08:13 4th row- put 6 rings in between the 2 sets of 3 rings from the 3rd row on the 3 rings from the 2nd row.
11:03 5th row- take 1/2 (3 rings) from the last 6 rings (row 4) and connect them with 3 rings from the neighboring set of 6 rings (row 4) with 3 rings
13:13 6th row- connect three rings from row 5 with
the neighboring set of 3 rings from row 5 with 3 rings
15:23 7th row- in between the 2 sets of 3 rings from row 6, attach 3 rings on row 5
17:25 8th and final row- attach the 5 sets of 3 rings (15 total) with 3 rings
Congrats your all done! Now to check for any issues with the pattern, ring gaps, or if any rings ends are not parallel to each other.
I would recommend you buy a small pair of jewelry pliers ($10) that don't have serrations on the jaws so you don't put marks on your rings. These are crucial to getting these rings closed up without hurting your fingers and they make weaving the tighter spots a lot easier.
If you have any questions about this project, please feel free to comment and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Time me....
