#CERNimpact 1 euro invested in CERN’s research brings 1.8 euros back to the society

CERN’s engineers, technicians and scientists develop novel technologies and expertise contributing to applications in fields beyond high-energy physics, addressing global societal challenges in areas such as health and environment.

CERN built a world-class physics laboratory with the most powerful particle accelerators. Fundamental research in particle physics not only pushes back the boundaries of our knowledge of the Universe, but also catalyses innovative technology developments. The scale and demands of our accelerators, detectors and computing infrastructure constantly push the boundaries of technology.

Together with our Member States, Associate Member States and partners across the globe, we develop state-of-the-art technologies in different domains – technology that impacts and saves lives.
When the World Wide Web was invented, we offered it to the world. And today, there are more than 1.8 billion web pages for almost 5 billion web users.

The technologies and scientific advances behind high-energy physics - through developments in accelerators, detectors and computing - have historically contributed to the field of medical and biomedical technologies. They also extend to a vast range of areas such as aerospace, industry 4.0, cultural heritage, safety and towards a better planet.

Human capital, education, outreach and open science, we are a powerful model for international cooperation, taken as an example by other intergovernmental organisations and endeavours .

To work together peacefully on a shared, common goal, we find collaborative solutions to fundamental physics challenges and to promote a model for other international research project.

We are a driving force for technological innovation.
We work together for a common good and are a proven source of inspiration for future generations.

We are CERN, we have had and will continue to have an impact on all our lives and the world around us. Understanding our universe means going further than outer space. We are going back to the origin of our #universe. Pushing #science and pushing #technology.
