Inside the Memorial Church at Jamestown the archaeologists have discovered evidence of what could be a well inside an early James Fort period cellar. The cellar and possible well had been backfilled by the colonists prior to constructing the first church on this location in 1617. Unfortunately, due to the presence of the standing brick church, the team was not able to excavate the entire cellar to confirm the existence of a well, but all signs indicate that there was one in the floor of the cellar.
