On Thursday, Oct. 15, a small group celebrated the completion and reopening of the Sanpoil Bridge, located 15 miles south of Republic, in Ferry County, on State Route 21. The reopening comes after flooding in 2017 washed out the south approach to the bridge. It was determined that by repairing the bridge, this could happen again. To allow travel to continue on SR 21, a temporary WWII Bailey Bridge was used until construction began on a new replacement bridge. This project rebuilt and lengthened the span of the bridge by an additional 60ft. It also rebuilt and diverted the river back to its previous location to keep an event like this from happening again.
