We hired a hilltop farm spot for the day....took the radio van & tested 7 serviced emergency sets which have previously been shown on here. All had managed our normal 6-mile test when plugged into the Solarcon 99 base aerial here.
The object was to field test these radios connected only to the original telescopic magmount provided in the original kit.
In this test, Mr Chippie drives away from me & I test all seven sets a each of his 1 mile interval stopping points. Two sets couldn't be heard beyond the 2-mile point. Just one set could be heard at the final 10-mile point.
Talkback was via our Harrier base station conneced to a Solarcon 99 base station aerial on an 18' mast.
We ran the sets of two different mains power supplies. One at 12.8V & the other at 13.8V. Some of these sets are 12V....some are 13.8V.
Power was via our 230V diesel generator.
