This is a comparison of five compact CB base aerials. I've mounted each aerial on 12 feet poles....all the same. I concreted in clothes line post ground spikes. David & I spent four hours assembling the aerials, making up the RG58/U cable assemblies & SWRing them.
Each aerial connected to a serviced, identical chassis radio.
It was soon clear that the Starduster M400 wasn;t working properly. Another has been ordered & we'll try again with that individually in the Future.
Our 20 year-old silver rod (cheap copy) mounted high on the church organ workshop was connected to a sixth radio as a 'control' aerial. This is higher & therefore works better than our usual Solarcon/Antron 99 base aerial we use.
1) Sirio Thunder (little more than a 27Mhz paging antenna)
2) Sirio Starduster M400
3) Sirio Signal Keeper (Hard to SWR as there is no frequency chart)
4) Sirio GPA 27-45
5) Sirio Boomerang 27A (poor single u clamp mount)
1) The thunder actually worked better than expected...about 2 miles
2) Although we got 6 miles on it...it wan't right
3) About 4 miles, just as expected
4) Magnificent performance....better than I expected
5) Exceeded my expectations dramatically & did the full 6 mile test. Especially good for such a compact 'balcony' type antenna.
We'll be repeating these individually.
We may test some others.
