Truth behind Euphrates Drying

As the Bible warned, the Euphrates River is drying away. However, unlike supernatural interpretations such as the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, this problem is caused by a very real environmental phenomenon: severe droughts and climate change. The Euphrates River flows alongside the Tigris River, traveling through present-day Turkey, Syria, and Iraq before emptying into the Persian Gulf. It is the largest river system in Western Asia, having a basin that extends into Iran. The terrain around these two rivers was historically part of the Fertile Crescent, which gave excellent circumstances for established farming to grow, eventually giving rise to some of the world's first urban civilizations, including Mesopotamia.

Although once a fertile country, the Tigris-Euphrates River system is now drying up at an alarming rate, with experts warning that the rivers will run dry by 2040 due to diminishing water levels and droughts caused by climate change. In just a few decades, the flow of the Euphrates-Tigris River system has dropped to nearly half of its typical annual flow during dry years. Many of these issues are inextricably tied to the global climate catastrophe. The Middle East is considered one of the most sensitive locations to climate change, which is expected to exacerbate the region's water scarcity issues.

Figurines

The Euphrates Syrian Pillar figurines are anthropomorphic clay figures from the late Iron Age, made in the Middle Euphrates region. These figurines are part of a larger coroplastic manufacturing that mostly consists of handcrafted horse-rider sculptures. The clay figurines are entirely handmade and free-standing; in fact, the term EU SPFs is derived from their distinctive tubular body.

The body is concave at the base to allow it to stand, and the feet can be portrayed using a central protruding piece of clay in the middle of the frontal area. They were typically held with one hand while the other hand was engaged in modeling details. This was the "snowman" approach, which allowed people to work with miniatures in three dimensions. The object has an all-around shape, with the underside of the figurine's body serving as the foundation of support.
