_Cave Story_ is an indie action platformer created by Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya and first released for free on December 20, 2004. It follows the story of Quote, a soldier robot on a floating island who is tasked with defeating a mad doctor scheming to take over the world, which he must accomplish by traveling through a Metroidvania-style world, meeting a wide variety of characters and obtaining new weapons along the way. _Cave Story_ is one of the first indie games ever created and the first indie game to receive widespread critical acclaim, with many considering it a cornerstone in video game history as it set the stage for other amateur developers creating and selling games online.
_Cave Story_ has two major official versions: the original freeware version released by Daisuke Amaya in 2004, which was later translated to English by the group Aeon Genesis; and _Cave Story+,_ an expanded version of _Cave Story_ produced by the company Nicalis and sold on various storefronts. The version of _Cave Story_ seen in this video in fact has no affiliation with Daisuke or Nicalis; rather, this is the project of a fan who rewrote the source code of the freeware version of the game (using the Aeon Genesis translation) to run natively on Roblox.
This video features gameplay of a full run of the freeware version of _Cave Story._ All three endings and their associated badges are obtained; the 'Mimiga Ending' badge is skipped as the way to obtain it is to simply get the Normal Ending while wearing the Mimiga Mask.

•After obtaining the "Good Ending" badge, the player is awarded with a unique gear that is added to their inventory the next time they join the game. It is largely identical to the Teddy Bloxpin catalog item, but its voice lines were edited to mention _Cave Story_ and a tooltip was added to it that reads "Teddy Cavepin - Congrats!". It is removed from the player's inventory once they enter the teleporter and the game begins loading.
