It was a pretty stupid thing to do, luckily it wasn't my first time getting caught in a rip current and I eventually managed to get back to the shore safely.
Getting caught in a rip current can definitely lead to very dangerous consequences, so don't go into the Ocean if there's a Red Flag Warning.
If you don't know what a rip current is, it's a strong, localized, and narrow current of water which moves directly away from the shore, cutting through the lines of breaking waves like a river running out to sea. A rip current is strongest and fastest nearest the surface of the water.
It's very easy to get panic attacks as you can't swim against the current, and you get exhausted very quickly by doing it, plus you can't recover/breathe as the waves are constantly hitting you from behind, so the best thing to do in this situation is to stay calm, and try to swim out of the current, then back to the shore.
