In honor of the American Independence Day, my review of Joseph Addison's play Cato, a by now perhaps little remembered work about the last days of Cato the Younger and the fall of the Roman Republic which was enormously influential upon the founding fathers of the United States of America, who strongly resonated with its themes of liberty, courage, and the resistance of tyranny; and a work whose power I would say hasn't diminished much since its day.
