Maddy and Tim Harland have caught another wild swarm! In this video, Maddy describes how they encourage honeybees in to a bait hive and then how they move them into a top bar hive.
This beautiful and substantial swarm were looking to nest in the eaves of the neighbouring house, so Tim brought the bait hive into the front garden and added lemongrass to the entrance to attract the scouts.
Maddy explains why lemongrass attracts the bees, what she puts in the bait hive for the new colony and then how to move it across to their new home. A joyous occasion!
