By beating the game once, you can play as Joachim by entering @JOACHIM as your name in a new file.
Joachim has no shop or inventory.
You will find upgrades scattered around the castle. Joachim has no subweapons, but has two stances for his sword attacks; weak and strong, each with its own special attack. You can recover MP by attacking enemies or breaking candles.
He also has a different theme when fighting bosses; a short medley of music from Symphony of the Night.
As an interesting touch, he has no reflection in the shiny floors in the Pagoda of the Misty Moon.
His only cutscene plays after beating Death, and he has some images of himself during the credits sequence.
