Released across Java, iOS and DSiWare in 2009, Castle of Magic was one of the earliest 3D Gameloft games to come to iPhone, releasing a year before the first iPad had even launched. Alongside this, Castle of Magic for iOS was also the only 3D version of the 3, with the Java and DSiWare both designed as a purely 2D experience rather than the 2.5/3D design seen here.
The game takes obviously inspiration from games like Rayman, Kirby, Mario and Tombi/Tomba, featuring similar gameplay mechanics alongside similar visuals and audio to those games as well.

What a fun game 😁 A classic, 2.5D platform just filled to the brim with charm thanks to its poppy visuals and brilliant soundtrack, this was one where I played through the entire game in 1 sitting 😅 The only issue would be the touch controls, mainly from the lack of vibrational feedback as well as the circular D-Pad, making it difficult to know if you are hitting the buttons or accidentally pressing multiple directions at once, but I chalk that up to it being a very early example of a 2D platformer with touch controls 😊
