Due to the strategic position of the place, which was located on the transit route for goods between the Republic of Genoa, the Savoy State and the various Lombard Duchies, construction of the manor began around the second half of the 14th century, expanding a previous tenth-century tower, with the aim of providing security and collecting tolls. The building is located in a dominant position and features a monumental square tower, supported by several buildings to form a sort of well-articulated circle, equipped with surrounding walls with battlements, a moat and a drawbridge.
