Vigolzone Castle is a medieval castle located in the capital of the Italian municipality of Vigolzone, in the province of Piacenza. The castle is located on the western side of the town, in the southern part of the Po Valley, not far from the first hills of the Ligurian Apennines. The building, built to combine military and residential needs, has a rectangular base with an internal courtyard. Two square-based towers are located at opposite corners of the structure, an element shared with the Bicchignano castle. The largest tower, located on the northern side, served as a keep; 40 m high and equipped with swallow-tailed battlements, it was placed in a dominant position with respect to the drawbridge, originally present and later eliminated, to which it guaranteed protection. The original structure was heavily remodeled, externally and, especially, internally, during the works carried out at the beginning of the twentieth century, which inserted elements of romantic taste including the battlements covered by the roof located on the southern front. Inside, on the ground floor there is the hall where the hearings of the fief tribunal were held, while on the first floor, in the left wing of the building, there is the weapons room, characterised by a wooden ceiling which houses decorative panels depicting the coats of arms of the patrician families who had contracted kinship ties with the Anguissola of Vigolzone through marriage. According to some studies, in the room there was a fireplace resting on thin columns decorated with the symbols of the Anguissola, Visconti and Fontana families. On the same floor there was the theatre, housed in a 400 m² room, and destroyed by a fire in 1860.
