The castle, Castrum Grupelli, of which only the northern and eastern wing survived the XIV - XV centuries, was built by the Beccaria on the basis of an older fortress, was then embellished and raised a century later by the Visconti. They hardly lived there, being based in the Vigevano Castle, but they kept there some gastaldo and many dogs for hunting. The construction consists of two bodies to "l" incorporated into other civil buildings. English: The massive façade preserves intact some of the typical features of fortified buildings from the Visconti era, in particular the “sawtooth” perimeter decoration, here in the double overlapping frame variant, total decoration of the wall surfaces (large portions of the original plaster can be seen on the north façade and on the internal sides) and a splendid single-lancet window, richly moulded in terracotta and strongly splayed, open in the upper part on the eastern side of the massive corner tower. On the same west front, in which the current entrance is inserted, in addition to the blocked battlements, the traces of numerous blocked, transformed, reopened, moved openings of various shapes and uses are clearly visible. Of the underground road there still remain a descending cobbled staircase and a long wall, called “la piacerezza”, a place of parties and receptions, which surrounds the castle and extends, gently sloping, almost to the coast of the Ticino. Originally it was surrounded by a moat with a drawbridge of which the accommodation grooves can be glimpsed. Today it belongs to private individuals.

The first municipality in the Veneto region by surface area and second by population after Verona, it includes both island and mainland territories and is structured around the two main centres of Venice (in the centre of the lagoon of the same name) and Mestre (on the mainland). It is part of the Eurocities network of the largest European cities. The city was the capital of the Serenissima Republic of Venice for 1,100 years and is known in this regard as the Serenissima, the Dominant and the Queen of the Adriatic: for its urban peculiarities and its artistic heritage, it is universally considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world, declared, together with its lagoon, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, which has contributed to making it the second Italian city after Rome with the highest tourist flow. Between the 10th and 16th centuries it was one of the greatest naval and mercantile powers in the Mediterranean, with interests in particular towards the East. Together with Cannes and Berlin, it is considered one of the capitals of European cinema, thanks to the International Film Festival.
